Is something missing or wrong?

What to know before you buy

  • Results depend on the customer list you already have. Every vendor assumes a clean list with phone numbers, emails and consent, and none says what happens when it is stale.
  • Texting or calling a dormant list is regulated like cold calling. Ask how it handles quiet hours, opt-outs and consent records.
  • Most are a done-for-you service sold through a sales call: 11 of the 13. Many charge a share of revenue or per booking, so ask for the full terms in writing.
  • An automated “we miss you” blast is not an agent. The products here call and text through the list and handle the replies.
  • In reviews, getting out of the contract is the complaint that comes up most.
More from our research

How real (from our first round of research)

The vendors describe the work plainly, with published lines about proactively re-engaging past customers, re-engaging cold, dormant and unresponsive leads automatically, and an AI that calls and texts through the list at a pace you set. All 12 we checked in the first round act on their own once the list is loaded. On the full map, 11 of the 13 are sold through a sales call or contract, often done for you, so what you buy is a setup and an ongoing service rather than a login. Reactivation is often sold on revenue share or per booking, which is why so many prices are missing.

Watch for

What you get out of this depends on the customer list you already have, and no vendor warns you about that. Every vendor assumes a clean, consented database carrying phone numbers and emails, and none of the pages we checked sets out what happens when the list is stale or the consent record is thin, which is the normal state of a small business’s customer table. Texting a dormant list is the same regulated act as cold calling one, and on the done-for-you products the compliance help is not priced at all. One vendor states the safeguard outright, that quiet hours and opt-outs are respected automatically. Ordinary marketing automation is often sold here as an agent: an automated blast telling customers you miss them is not one, and those were kept out.

What reviewers raise

On the platforms that sell this, getting out of the contract is the complaint that comes up most.

Questions to ask in the demo

  1. Does an AI do this, or does a rule? If the answer is “when X happens it sends Y”, you are buying automation, and it should not cost AI prices.
  2. Does it send, or does it draft? Ask for the sentence on their page that says it acts on its own.
  3. Does it do it on its own on this plan, or on the one above? The setting that lets it act without you is often a tier up from the entry price.
