Is something missing or wrong?

What to know before you buy

  • For a small business, a general chat product you can upload a spreadsheet to may already do this. Try that before paying for a separate tool.
  • Confident wrong answers are the failure that matters most. Check a few numbers by hand before you rely on it.
  • Several price per seat or per editor, so multiply by the number of people who will use it.
  • Most standalone analysts start at $8 to $29 a month, and 5 of the 16 start free.
More from our research

How real (from our first round of research)

For a business of 1 to 50 people, a general chat product you can upload a file to already does this job, and one vendor’s free plan states it will search the web, create files and run code. Most paid standalone analysts start at $8 to $29 a month and earn their place by producing the dashboard or the model rather than a paragraph; one team product starts at $1,000 a month for up to 25 users. The business intelligence vendors cost far more: one here starts at $24,000 a year, and another adds $250 a month per account once its AI writing features are switched on.

Watch for

Wrong answers presented confidently is the failure mode that matters most here, because you have no way to check the number without doing the work yourself. Pricing is per seat and per editor rather than per business at four vendors, so a five-person shop multiplies the figure by five.

What reviewers raise

We could open only one review page here, and it was too small to tell you much. Its reviewers name credits running out faster than expected and the tool analyzing the wrong data or inventing figures.

What builders say

A weekly client report agent that explained the figures and proposed next steps was switched off, while a plain one that fills in the same headings every week is still running, described in Where products stop short.

Questions to ask in the demo

  1. Does an AI do this, or does a rule? If the answer is “when X happens it sends Y”, you are buying automation, and it should not cost AI prices.
  2. Does it send, or does it draft? Ask for the sentence on their page that says it acts on its own.
  3. Does it do it on its own on this plan, or on the one above? The setting that lets it act without you is often a tier up from the entry price.
