Is something missing or wrong?

What to know before you buy

  • All of these join the call and write the notes themselves. The difference is what happens next: about half also send the notes or push actions into your other tools.
  • Several long-established products do the core job free with no cap on use. Try a free one first.
  • Free plans run out by volume, such as storage minutes, rather than by time. Check the limit against how many meetings you have.
  • In reviews, the recurring problems are the bot failing to join, recordings lost and billing after cancellation.
More from our research

How real (from our first round of research)

These count because the product joins the call and writes the notes by itself, with published wording including automatically joining, recording, transcribing and taking notes, and joining the three main meeting platforms to automatically write and share notes. The distinguishing question is what happens after the call, and on that the 14 split: 7 publish a sentence about pushing the result somewhere or sending it, and 7 mainly produce the notes.

Watch for

The bot failing to join a scheduled call, or a meeting not recording properly, comes up in reviews, as do lost recordings and billing after cancellation. Free plan gates are real: one free tier cannot be used without first claiming a seven-day trial, and one vendor’s free plan allows 400 minutes of storage per team against 8,000 per seat on the paid tier, so the free tier runs out by volume rather than by time.

Worth knowing

Several of the long-established products give the core job away free with no cap on how much you use it, which leaves a newer product very little room to charge for it.

Questions to ask in the demo

  1. Does an AI do this, or does a rule? If the answer is “when X happens it sends Y”, you are buying automation, and it should not cost AI prices.
  2. Does it send, or does it draft? Ask for the sentence on their page that says it acts on its own.
  3. Does it do it on its own on this plan, or on the one above? The setting that lets it act without you is often a tier up from the entry price.
