What to know before you buy
- This is one of the most autonomous jobs on the map: the AI takes the whole order and sends it to your point of sale with nobody retyping it. Check it works with the register you already use.
- Most are sold through a sales call. 4 of the 15 can be bought with a sign-up form, and published plans run from $159 to $349 a month.
- Ask to hear it handle the hard orders live: half-and-half, heavy modifiers, strong accents and spoken numbers such as quantities and addresses.
- Drive-through ordering is sold to chains and is a separate purchase from phone ordering for one restaurant.
- Almost none of these products has public reviews, so ask for a restaurant like yours you can call.
More from our research
How real (from our first round of research)
One of the more autonomous jobs on the map. Every one of the 10 we checked in the first round has a vendor page stating in plain words that the AI takes the order and sends it to the point of sale, and several show single-restaurant proof or a plan sized for one location.
Watch for
The soft spot is how open they are about price, not whether the product does the job, with 9 of the 15 routing you to a demo instead of publishing a number even though the product clearly acts. The hard cases are half-and-half and heavily modified orders and strong accents, and those are what vendors most often show in their own demos, so ask to see them handled live. The drive-through half of this market is sold to chains and is a separate purchase from phone ordering for one restaurant.
Worth knowing
There is almost no review data for this job. Almost none of these products has public reviews, so you cannot check this part of the market by reading reviews.
What builders say
Spoken numbers are the weak point, described in Where products stop short. The same problem hits order quantities and delivery addresses.
Questions to ask in the demo
- Does an AI do this, or does a rule? If the answer is “when X happens it sends Y”, you are buying automation, and it should not cost AI prices.
- Does it send, or does it draft? Ask for the sentence on their page that says it acts on its own.
- Does it do it on its own on this plan, or on the one above? The setting that lets it act without you is often a tier up from the entry price.
